General information only
The guides, articles and answers on this Site are general information for homeowners and businesses in Kenosha County. They are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a qualified technician.
Disclosure: the roofing contractor and the two states served
Kenosha Roofing operates a telephone line and web enquiry form for residential and commercial roofing in Kenosha, Kenosha County and nearby communities in southeast Wisconsin, and in parts of Lake County, Illinois. Each enquiry is referred to one independent local roofing contractor, the partner, which alone answers for the inspection, the quote, the crew, the materials, the workmanship, any warranty and any permit application. Kenosha Roofing does not perform roofing work and employs no roofers.
The contractor is the party required to hold the credential its state demands for the work: in Wisconsin, the dwelling contractor credentials administered by the Department of Safety and Professional Services where a permit for a one- or two-family dwelling is involved, with the financial responsibility that Department requires; in Illinois, a licence issued by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation under the Illinois Roofing Industry Licensing Act, which a permit-issuing official must confirm before granting a roofing permit. The contractor also carries its own insurance and answers to the agency concerned. Neither Kenosha Roofing nor this website holds any licence, certification, bond or insurance for roofing work, and none is claimed. No credential held in one of these states is represented as valid in the other.
Any customer may ask the contractor for its licence or credential number at any time, by telephone on the line this site publishes or directly from the contractor, and may ask to see it before work is agreed. The number is not published here, to protect the privacy of a small private business. A Wisconsin credential can be checked with the Department of Safety and Professional Services, and an Illinois licence with the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Permits, inspections and historic-district review remain matters for the city, village or county with jurisdiction over your address.

Prices are estimates
Price ranges are typical estimates for our service area in 2026. They are not quotes or offers. Your price is confirmed in person before any work starts.
Safety on and around a roof
Do not go up to look. Falls are the leading cause of death in construction work, and roofs, ladders and roof openings account for most of them. A roof that looks sound from the ground can have broken sheathing, rotten decking or a hidden soft spot that gives way under one footstep, and storm damage makes that more likely, not less.
Never walk a roof that is wet, frosted, mossy, or shedding loose granules: asphalt shingles are slick long before they look it, and a shallow pitch is no protection. Never go up after a storm while there is still wind, lightning, standing water or a downed power line anywhere near the house. Snow and ice make the same roof several times worse, and pulling at an ice dam from a ladder brings the ice down on the person pulling it. Keep well clear of the eaves in freezing weather for the same reason.
You can tell us a great deal without leaving the ground: look at the roof with binoculars, photograph what you can see from an upstairs window, and check the ceilings and the attic from inside. Let someone with fall protection and the right ladders do the rest. While work is going on, keep children and pets away from the drip line, keep vehicles out from under the eaves, and treat every nail, offcut and piece of flashing on the ground as sharp. If a ceiling is sagging or wet, stay out of the room under it until someone has looked at it.
Licensing, permits and insurance
Roofing is regulated differently in every state. Some license roofing as a trade of its own, some cover it under a general contractor licence, some under a home-improvement registration, and some leave it to cities and counties, so the requirement that applies in Wisconsin is the one in force where the property stands. Ask any contractor, including us, what they hold and check it with the issuing authority before work starts. Nothing on this Site is a claim to hold a licence, certification, approval or manufacturer accreditation. Ask us what we hold before work starts, and check it with the authority that issues it.
Replacing a roof normally needs a building permit and an inspection, and which office issues it depends on where the property sits; confirm it with your city or county building department. Shingle, membrane and metal manufacturers give their own warranties on their own terms, and most of them depend on the roof being installed, fastened and ventilated to the manufacturer's instructions; nothing on this Site creates, extends or substitutes for one.
On storm and hail work: we can document what we find and meet your adjuster at the property, but we are not public adjusters or insurance agents. We cannot appraise, negotiate or settle a claim for you, and in many states doing that without a licence is prohibited. Nothing on this Site offers to pay, waive, rebate or absorb an insurance deductible. Whether damage is covered is decided by your insurer under your policy, and information here is a summary, not legal, insurance or code advice.
